OBS Studio for MAC
Free, open-source app for screen recording and live streaming on Mac.
OBS Studio Overview
OBS Studio is free, open-source software for recording your screen and streaming live video. You build scenes from your display, app windows, cameras, images, text and web pages, mix their audio, and then record to a file or stream to platforms such as YouTube and Twitch. It is made by the OBS Project and its contributors and released under the GPLv2 license, with no watermarks, no time limits and no paid version.
OBS Studio is used for game streaming, online classes, tutorials, podcasts and video calls. On the Mac there are separate downloads for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and the current version needs macOS 13 or later.
Key Features
OBS Studio gives you a full live production studio, from capturing sources to the final recording or stream.
- Scenes and sources: build as many scenes as you need from screen and window capture, cameras, capture cards, images, text, media files and web pages, and switch between them with transitions.
- Screen capture on Mac: the macOS Screen Capture source records a display, a window or an app, including its sound on macOS 13 and later.
- Audio mixer: per-source volume and filters such as noise suppression, noise gate, gain and compression.
- Recording and streaming: record to MP4, MKV and other formats, stream to YouTube, Twitch and other services, or do both at once.
- Hardware encoding: uses Apple's VideoToolbox encoder on Mac, so recording and streaming take less of your Mac's processing power.
- Studio Mode: preview and adjust a scene before it goes live.
- Virtual camera: send your OBS scene to Zoom, Teams, FaceTime and other video call apps as a camera.
- Hotkeys and plugins: control almost everything with keyboard shortcuts, and add features with plugins and Lua or Python scripts.
